Dear friends,

For me. Someone once said to me, „I do believe that God is interested in this world. But surely not in me personally. We are like an anthill. It could be in God’s interest that this anthill continues to function and proves itself in the future. But surely He’s not interested in every single ant!“ Oh yes, He is. That’s exactly the point.

Today it’s not about „humanity in general“. God is not interested in vague generalities. God is interested in the individual. Precisely, for me. His greatness is proven by the fact that He can make himself small. He knows me better than I know myself. He has more interest in me – infinitely more interest – than I could ever have.

These days I have started to read the collected writings of Alfred Delp. Delp was a Jesuit who was hanged by the Nazis on February 2, 1945. I find his writings very profound. He spoke again and again about how God is serious about us. It’s not a superficial relationship. We get very close to Him. So close that He wanted to feel the effects of my sin in His own body. Communion in particular reminds us how seriously He takes us. My body. For you.

„I live by faith in the Son of God who has loved me and given himself up for me.“ (Gal 2:20) For me. When we begin to grasp this, everything changes. What I long for is that this awareness does not leave us cold. That it does not remain in the spheres of our minds. That this understanding seeps down into our hearts. That it takes hold of us.

I wish you this grace, I wish it for myself

Have a blessed Good Friday!
